The Corobici Casino is one of the nicer hotel/casinos in Costa Rica and has a pretty strong poker game.

The game starts at 6PM and usually features two tables of 1/2 Texas Holdem. The game is very soft and easily beatable but the house runs it very slowly with no chip runners so the game plays out at an excruciating pace. Every buy in stops the game and the box reset takes a few minutes.

Since they do not have a card shuffler in the table or the extra human shuffler like some other Costa Rica cardrooms like the Horseshoe Casino do the slow play makes the game less profitable for both the house and the poker players.

They run in a "must move" format and when you enter the game you usually start on the second table, which usually has less money on the table than the main table. As players leave the main table players are moved from the second table in the order they entered the game. The main table tends to be where most of the money in the room is at.

Hurt is originally a Nine Inch Nails song written by Trent Reznor, but it is the cover by Johnny Cash that I like (I actually haven't heard NIN's version). A friend sent me the music video for the Cash cover and it sent me reeling.

It's a powerful music video and Reznor himself didn't fully appreciate the cover until he had seen the video saying, "I pop the video in, and wow… Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps… Wow. I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore. … It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning—different, but every bit as pure."

For many years I held this to be the greatest work of art of all time in all mediums while knowing that such a title is an impossible exaggeration. However my high opinion of this poem still stands and was what turned me on to Edgar Allan Poe's genius.

The internal rhyme and infernal rhythm of Poe's alliterative poem combined with his effective use of imagery and superb use of language make this dark poem my favorite.

This poem, by Edgar Allan Poe is the poem that as a youth I wished I had written.

<pre>
From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were — I have not seen
As others saw — I could not bring
My passions from a common spring —
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow — I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone —
And all I lov'd — I lov'd alone —
Then — in my childhood — in the dawn
Of a most stormy life — was drawn
From ev'ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still —
From the torrent, or the fountain —
From the red cliff of the mountain —
From the sun that 'round me roll'd
In its autumn tint of gold —
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass'd me flying by —
From the thunder, and the storm —
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view —
